Today we've been asked over at BBAW headquarters to talk about books that we don't think have gotten the buzz they deserve. We all know that there are plenty of books that we see all over the blogosphere and the world over and clearly get all the buzz they need but what about those forgotten treasures that are wonderful books in their own rights that you've read this year?
An absolutely fabulous book that I read for the first time this year was Marie Bostwick's 'River's Edge'. Set in WWII in New England, we see a young girl come to grips with her heritage and make peace with a new life in a different country. I absolutely loved this book.
Another interesting read that really stretched, for me, the way a book can be written, was Nancy Houston's 'Fault Lines'. Set in modern day and working it's way back to WWII it deals with events that occurred that set a family on it's axis but no one ever wanted to talk about. It made you want to get to the source.
So tell, what have you read lately that you thought didn't get the attention it deserved?

River's Edge sounds wonderful -- and definitely like something I would enjoy! Many of the books I've read in the WWII time period have been great.
ReplyDeleteAnd Fault Lines has that creepy eye on its spine!
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of either of these!
ReplyDeleteThe one book that hasn't gotten enough buzz is Kitchen Chinese by Ann Mah.
ReplyDeletei've recently started reading more historical fiction so i'm definitely adding these books to my list. thanks for the rec!
ReplyDeleteBoth of those books sound really interesting! Thanks for the recommendations!
ReplyDeleteI love forgotten treasures. I think this was such a great idea for BBAW week. I tend to read books that are not necessarily the most popular and appreciate the recommendations you've given here.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy books set during and around WWII so these both sound worth checking out.
