Lookin' For Some New Bookmarks?

I've been using the same old, tattered bookmark I got for free from a work event about five years ago. It's great but I only have the one. I decided it's time to upgrade and maybe I should purchase a couple of bookmarks but the thing is, I have very specific needs. I need it to STAY PUT! It needs to have some sort of mechanism to hook around the book. A lot of bookmarks are, well, limp, and just hang out in between the pages. I don't want that in a man and I don't want that in a bookmark! Wow, ok moving on! So whenever I need anything crafty I turn obviously, to etsy and I found some great new options! Which of these do you like?

This one I like because a. It's only $2 and I am cheap b. the design is kind of olde worlde and c. it's magnetic so will not fall out of the book - sold! To check out this one and other designs by this artist check them out here!

First of all these bookmarks are metal so they are incredibly beautiful and stunning in an artsy kind of way and you get 6 in a pack so you can either keep them all for yourself and represent the world traveller that you are (or reflect through you're reading!) or give some in a book as a gift that goes to one of these locales. The bookmarks are stamped with 6 major world cities and being that they are made of metal are sturdy enough to stay put I think and last a long time. So cool looking, check 'em out!

I also found this one. Yep it's a chicken! I don't know, I have a weird thing about chickens. I think they are really cute. There are a bunch in my kitchen. Slap one on a bookmark and I'm going to think it's really cute too apparently! With this the metal stick would lay in the book and the little chicken charm would hang out which is freaking adorable! You can check it out here!

So which do you like of the above and more importantly, what do you look for in a bookmark?!

  1. "I don't want that in a man and I don't want that in a bookmark!" Love it! Had me giggling inappropriately at my desk. :D I love those metal ones! For me a bookmark has to fit a couple of requirements. It has to be cheap or free, pretty and it must not have a tassel. Kitties + tassels = no reading for me!

Someone shared this link on twitter the other day and I love them! So cute! But I'm not bothered about magnets. :)

  2. I love the metal world bookmarks - and a great idea as a present as well. Only problem is I might have to get two sets - one for me, and one to give away! My bookmarks just tend to be the freebies I get from bookstores, or I read the book in one sitting so don't need one!

  3. well, they are all cool in their own way (i personally love chickens too)but the more practical the better for a bookmark. I still love the free paper ones you get, like when you order a book it always seems to come with one. Let us know which one you end up getting.

  5. I have many many bookmarks, if someone is going on a vacation and mentions wanting to bring back something for me, I tell them to bring me a bookmark, I guess you could say I collect them. I keep a bookmark in all of my books, that way if someone borrows it, they will not bend down the corners. I love bookmarks that blend with my personality. I have a metal bookmark, but I don't care for it, because it keeps falling out of the book. My favorite are the bookmarks with the tassels, although I noticed that Lisa doesn't like them with tassels, like I said, I think they need to blend with your personality. I love the cute little one that was in the book you send me. Thanks for it.

  6. I have tons of bookmarks...I tend to buy them when I travel. But do I use them? Hah! I usually end up just sticking a scrap of paper in the book.

  7. For a bookmark, it needs to be something thin that I slip into the book. My absolute favorite bookmarks are swag bookmarks that match my books! It gives me a little thrill! :) I don't like fancy bookmarks much. I'd rather just have a piece of paper tucked inside.

  8. these bookmarks look amazing! i would be happy with any of them. i'm not very picky when it comes to bookmarks. i use anything from business cards to old receipts, whatever fits in the book and is lying around at the time.

  9. I have been eyeing those magnetic bookmarks myself. The price sure is right! Most of the bookmarks I have are freebies or ones I have received as a gift. I have a couple that are near and dear to me including a victorian looking one a friend gave me.

  10. They're all cute, but the metal one seems the most practical (if you are actually going to buy the bookmark instead of use a paper one). I actually think that one is a great bookmark to use for the books you carry around in your purse... those are the times my bookmarks fall out and I get upset. Hmmm... maybe I need to invest in one too!

  11. I love bookmarks but I don't buy them, they are usually free or gifts. I don't them bulky though, not the hook types no matter how pretty they look. I prefer normal paper bookmarks with laces that hang out of the pages.

  12. I don't want that in a man, either! LOL.

I LOVE bookmarks. I make a bunch for myself, but I never think they are cute enough to give to anyone. I am very picky too and find that metal ones, even the ones with the hook at the end, always fly out (too heavy). I used to use the kind with a string, but in haste, I've ripped a page or two. My fave are of the cardstock variety with a ribbon or thingy hanging out at the top and sometimes magnetic ones.

The ones you shared here are so cute.
