Audiobook Week: Audiobooks for the Uninitiated

If you are new to audiobooks, here are some of my favorite titles from the past year that I would recommend as a great way to get your feet wet (all titles link to my reviews):
  • Pretty in Plaid: A Life, A Witch, and a Wardrobe, or, the Wonder Years Before the Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smart-Ass Phase by Jen Lancaster -- If you love memoirs or are a child of the 80s this book is a laugh a minute and will have you nodding along as you listen to this wonderful coming of age story!
  • The Heights by Peter Hedges -- Drama, drama, drama! Seriously, if intense relationship drama is your thing with some major plot twists at the end, than you have to check out The Heights. I don't normally enjoy multiple narrators but this one does it well and I was on the edge of my seat until the end!
  • The Postmistress by Sarah Blake -- I absolutely love historical fiction and this novel set during WWII was brought to life in this wonderful audiobook narrated by the talented Orlagh Cassidy.
  • Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler -- Do you enjoy chick lit and Jane Austen remixes? Than here a seriously fun book that takes you from the present to the past with a fun heroine that will have you cheering for her throughout!
  • I Was Told There'd Be Cake by Sloane Crosley -- Do you ever feel like your real life is funny but nobody ever talks about it? Crosley's memoir is the book for you! All those silly everyday stories are brought to life in a way funnier way than I could ever tell them and will have you slapping your knee or laughing on the bus while you listen to this gem of an audio narrated by the author herself.
I hope I've inspired you to pick up some new audiobooks with my suggestions. Which ones do I need to add to my must listen to list? Don't forget to check out Devourer of Books for more audiobook fun!
