I have a big vacation coming up this Monday and, not surprisingly I am really excited! For my 30th birthday I knew I wanted to do something I've never done, go somewhere I've never gone before, and push myself by experiencing things I never have before. So with that, come Monday my boyfriend and I will be in Bali for 12 days. We've been planning it for months and are counting the minutes!
I am also counting the books I will bring :) The flight is LONG. And we also want to get in plenty of relaxing beach time while we are there so I am figuring in plenty of quality reading time when I am not hiking in some exotic locals.
Here's the books I am thinking of bringing. What am I missing?
1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
2. Holy Ghost Girl by Donna Johnson
3. What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
4. The First Husband by Laura Dave
5. The Dressmaker of Khair Khana by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon
Too many books? Not enough? The right variety? Let me know your thoughts!

Oh, my goodness! Bali?! I am so jealous - can't wait to see the pictures!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you've got some fantastic books that you're bringing with you. I just finished some creepy books for the RIP Challenge and enjoyed them (Vlad:The Last Confession and Rebecca). The Night Circus is one on my list to read this year as well - hope you enjoy it!
Have a safe and fun trip!! Oh, and Happy Birthday!
I think The Night Circus and What Alice Forgot are both great choices since they both have had overwhelmingly positive reviews. Have a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so excited! I can't wait to read The Night Circus, and The Dressmaker of Khair Khana.
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Would love to hear about Bali. My daughter and her fiancé are considering it for a honeymoon....
ReplyDeleteHappy reading -- enjoy!
Thank you for all of the good wishes and positive thoughts about my trip! I promise to share lots of pictures and stories about my trip when I return. I just hope I won't bore you all :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you think these book suggestions sound good!
Have a wonderful vacation! I read and enjoyed the last three books on your list so I hope you do too :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you do get a chance to read The Night Circus and enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThe Night Circus just arrived in the mail...I'm looking forward to reading it!
ReplyDeleteAnd have a fabulous trip! Take lots of pictures for us. :-D
It looks like you've got a great selection to me! Your trip sounds wonderful. I can't wait to hear about it when you get back! Happy birthday a little early!
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip and wonderful birthday! Looks like you have some great books to take with you!
ReplyDeleteBali! You go girl :) I hope you will have a great time and I am sure you are gonna like those books
ReplyDeleteLooks a great selection! I'm in the middle of The First Husband right now, and it's a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteWow! Bali! It's so beautiful there. Never been but I've seen pictures.
ReplyDeleteAs far as book selections, you've made some great choices. Will you have enough time to read them all? Are they on kindle?
My husband bought me a kindle so I wouldn't lug books around! I've always wanted to leave books in places, and track their travels around the world through bookcrossing.com
Happy Birthday! Not knowing what all is in Bali, hard to say what you'd get through. Should have plenty for the flights. The readers are great for the questions of having enough
ReplyDeleteHow EXCITING - 12 days! You packed all those books or (1) Kindle?? LOL
ReplyDeleteOMG...you'll be in Bali, come to Singapore, it's very close :) Seriously do come...
ReplyDeleteLike the books you're planning to read but I think you'll be having too much fun to get any time to read :)
Ohh, Bali...wonderful! I'd love to go there someday. Happy birthday! As for books, I've heard The Night Circus is really engrossing, so that'll probably be a good plane read. I don't know much about the others, but it looks like you have a good variety!
ReplyDeleteBali -- how exciting! Wow. Can't wait to hear about your trip and see some fabulous pictures!
ReplyDeleteI have The Night circus in my TBR and am really looking forward to reading it! Hope you have a fabulous time, and happy birthday!
Evie - I may not have time to read them all but I've got to have some selection in case 1 or 2 doesn't click!
ReplyDeleteViolet - thanks for the invite. I so wish I could :)
aww i'm so jealous! how fun!! take lots of pictures for us! looks like you have a great list of books you're bringing along. hopefully you'll have more luck at finding time to read than i did when i went to hawaii. i packed four books with me when i went and i didn't even have time to finish one book. i was too busy trying to take everything in and not miss out on anything.
ReplyDeletehave fun and happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday!!! Great books
ReplyDeleteI took five books with me to Hawaii and figured there would be no way I would read them all because we had planned so many activities. But we had a long flight and a couple of layovers on the way over, and then we did end up with some down-time poolside so I read more than I thought and actually finished all five by the end of the week. I was completely shocked.
ReplyDeleteI loved What Alice Forgot - that's a great vacation read! I haven't read any of the others, but hope to read The Night Circus someday soon.
Have a fantastic vacation! I hope you have a lot of wonderful relaxation and reading time!
Bali? How amazing! Enjoy every minute of it! I loved The First Husband, and it's a wonderful vacation book because the main character is a travel writer. I have several of the others on my TBR. I think variety is most important, and you have a nice mix of genres and a non-fiction title for good measure. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of people say they couldn't put down The Night Circus once they started so that should be a great pick for a long flight. Have a great time in Bali!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a nice long trip to Bali. Have a great birthday and trip (how could you not?!).
ReplyDeleteWe look forward to the pics when you get back!
