Are You Scheduled?

I used to be such a regimented blogger. For about a year and a half there, I had read enough books in advance that I always had book reviews scheduled in advance. I wasn't caught up on review requests or anything. Ha! But I was certainly not running to read reviews in time for scheduled posts or to try to at least get one review up a week. I always had two. This year though, life has become a little more chaotic and with that my schedule has flown out the window.

It hasn't all been bad though. For the most part I haven't read any bad books and we are four months in. All of the books I have chosen to spend time with this year have been rated Grades A and B which is awesome. However, I can't help but feeling like a bad blogger, only getting review up here and there. I mean that is the point of a book review blog isn't it, to review books?

So I ask my fellow book reviewers out there, are you regimented and always have scheduled book reviews ready to go? Or do you find yourself sometimes unable to meet the demands you set yourself?

  1. I have a mix - I read one review book and then one personal pick book and so on. This helps me get to my review books but also lets me have fun reading - that I don't schedule and pick based on mood, etc.

I do have a schedule (Google Calendar) for the review books with release dates and/or blog tour dates. I am an organized person in general so this helps with the blog and making sure I don't blow off a book.

I try to write my reviews soon after finishing so the details and emotions are fresh in my mind. Sometimes that doesn't happen though so I don't stress about it too much.

    1. A Google Calendar is a great idea. I am thinking perhaps it is time I implement something like that! That way I know exactly how many books I have to read that are coming out in one month's time and therefore perhaps if I am too full for a particularly month to accept anymore.

I also love your alternations to keep it fun!

  2. The only time I have scheduled reviews is if I am on a book tour or I have a date set with the publisher otherwise sadly I'm not. I wish I was though.

Although in the past I use to read a review book and then my own book and would write my own book review and let it sit until I needed it. I really need to get back into that.

    1. That seems to be me this year! If I have a tour date (which I have way too many this year!) then I schedule my post in advance. Otherwise, I am always just reading and writing as I go!

  3. I generally have a few reviews ready to go but life has gotten in the way before. Don't sweat the small stuff - you have a lot going on.

  4. i'm sure you can tell that i'm not a regular reviewer and i feel terrible about it too! but sometimes life just gets so overwhelming that its hard to stick to a schedule. i try to read alot of books in advance so that i'll have book reviews up weekly, but it just never works out that way.

    1. You are in school so you definitely have a lot going on! I don't know how you keep it all organized and read as much you do. Honestly, I am so impressed!

  5. I have no pattern. To me, reading comes first so I will often read a slew of books and then sit down and bang out 3-4 reviews...sometimes more but then there are weeks where I just want to write anything. I prefer to schedule, but I sort of like just writing when I feel like writing too.

    1. Well that makes me feel better! You have an impressive following so if you don't have a schedule maybe its 'not all about the schedule'!

  6. I really used to be but now---not so much! I have a hard time even getting a few days ahead *sigh* :)

  7. I wouldn't worry too much about not being scheduled. You have a full plate! I used to have a book or two always waiting to be reviewed, but not so these days. If I can finish a book in time for a post, great, but if I have to take a day off from blogging, ah well. I think I'd rather just enjoy reading and blogging than worry too much about a set schedule (other than pre-scheduled blog tours).

    1. I am trying to be like that and take it a little more casually. This is my hobby and I don't want it to cause me any extra stress if I can let it but I am type A after all!

  8. I just review as I go. Lately I'm not finishing books fast enough to have it be a problem. And I'm feeling bad, because as you say, the blog is meant to have reviews? So where are they???? :)

    1. That's my problem. I used to finish books much faster. Life is just getting in the way these days. Argg!

  9. Not really. Sometimes I time it just right. At the moment I do have 3 reviews waiting to be published. One is really old, it's my save in case of review

  10. I don't always review books I read. But I do try to mention them so that I can remember I have read them, lol.

  11. I try to post a review each week. There have been a few weeks over the years where that didn't happen because life was busy. If I'm a stop on a blog tour I schedule that. I try to post a review near the pub date if I received an arc.
The Google calendar is nice. I just started using it last month.
You have a lot going on this year. Don't worry if the blog slides for a bit. Enjoy all the good stuff :)

    1. I have been pretty good at at least posting one review a week, although my goal was always two. I am going to have to start doing this google calendar thing as I think this could really help.

I agree, I need to just chill and enjoy this year. Thanks for being so sweet!

  12. I alternate between having a week's reviews posted in advance (which means 4 reviews or other book related posts as I do Musing Mondays, Booking Through Thursdays and the Sunday Salon), and life catching me out and therefore me not posting at all for a fortnight. I figure it's my blog, people aren't going to abandon me for having a life... need to earn money to buy all those books!

  13. I go through spurts when I am reading lots, but can't deal with the though of sitting down and writing reviews. Then some weekend, I'll sit down with plans to write (1) and I'll write 3 or 4. I ration posting them though....LOL (as I'm not sure when I'll feel like writing again).

  14. Yes and no! I aim to schedule and keep a calendar that combines both review commitments, tentatively scheduled reviews, and personal goals. Aside from specific date commitments, however, the schedule is sometimes quite fluid. If I don't feel like writing a review, I don't force it (and those forced reviews aren't very good.) Sometimes, although not as often as I would like, I can turn out multiples reviews in one sitting. I'm typically one or two behind. I do schedule, but often that scheduling is writing the review the night before. I wish I could get back in the habit of writing all my reviews for the week the weekend before. That was nice while it lasted! The biggest thing for me is to set goals, but not to feel pressure. It's a hobby!

  15. I am terrible with schedules... Sometimes I can easily blog everyday, but other times I really struggle with things to talk about. I used to worry about it a lot, but now I just try and do my own thing and not stress about it...

  16. I used to be regimented. I uploaded atleast 1 post every week. But I seem to be slacking this year too. I don't think it's for the lack of time, I can make time if I have too, but I just don't seem to have the excitement. Hopefully it's just a phase. Don't fret yourself too much over it. The point is you are reading good books even if not many :)

  17. Scheduled? heck no. I just roll.

  18. Not really - I do keep a google calendar so I can keep track of what I have committed to but I rarely have reviews ready in advance of their posting date. I keep trying to get ahead because I think it will allow me to enjoy the blogging more but life keeps getting in the way!

If it is any consolation, your posts are always great and don't seem infrequent so you are definitely doing something right!
